Herbal Consultations

An herbal consultation offers a holistic approach to your well-being. Holistic health considers the whole person, body, mind and spirit as well as environmental, social, and lifestyle factors. All these aspects of your health and well-being will be explored as part of the consultation process. A holistic approach also means addressing the root cause of imbalance, not just the symptoms.

During an herbal consultation the herbalist will focus on educating the client on how they can enhance their body’s innate healing capacity. The consultation is an opportunity to learn natural approaches to health and receive guidance about the use of herbs for greater health and well-being. An herbal consultation can help you address a specific health concern or simply help you optimize your energy and vitality.

Working with an Herbalist and the

herbalist’s scope of practice

An herbalist will evaluate patterns in your health and individual constitution and make recommendations for improvements. Those recommendations may be in the form of herbs and herbal formulas, supplements, food choices and lifestyle changes. These recommendations are intended to support and facilitate your own informed-decision making and empower you in your journey towards better health.

When you work with an herbalist, your commitment to your own well-being is key to achieving your health goals. Your herbalist will help you make informed-decisions about use of natural products, help you understand the hurdles to success and encourage you along the way. A willingness to change and grow, being open to new ways of being, patience for the process and tenderness toward yourself optimize your ability to reach your goals.

Herbalists are trained in the therapeutic use of plants. Their goal is to facility a harmonious relationship between the plants and people. They work to create a relationship in which plant communities are respected and honored and plant medicine is utilized to support the body’s innate healing capacity and achieve balance.

Herbalists practicing in the United States are not licensed practitioners. The services we provide are not intended to replace the those of a licensed physician or other healthcare provider. Herbalists do not diagnose or prescribe treatments and are not trained in the diagnosis and treatment of disease according to the protocols of medical science. Your herbalist is part of your healthcare team and will work with any of your healthcare practitioners to support you.

What to Expect in a full consultation

Before your first consultation, you will need to complete a questionnaire about your health and lifestyle. Your herbalist will review this information and delve more deeply into your concerns, needs, diet and lifestyle. You will receive written recommendations which may include personalized custom herbal formulas, supplements, food and lifestyle changes. The cost of your visit does not include herbs, supplements or other products.

If during your consultation, the herbalist determines that your needs are not within the scope of an herbalist’s training and expertise, you will be referred to another practitioner. You may also be referred to other practitioners who offer other types of support that may complement the use of herbal remedies.

Your initial consultation will usually run 60-90 minutes. Follow-ups usually run about 30-45 minutes and can be scheduled based on your herbalist’s recommendation and mutual agreement. Bringing the body back to balance from a state of imbalance takes time. A given herbal program may be followed from 1 to 3 months or more, depending on the individual and their health status.

There may also be an herbalist-in-training attending your consultation. The herbalist-in-training is there to support you and learn consultation skills along the way. They will take notes and ask questions as needed.

Before Your Herbal Consultation

If you are scheduled for a full consultation, please complete these forms and return them at least 24 hours before your consultation.
